Catholic Pontiff speaks on the need to protect children from having access to porn online

Tech giants has been tasked to ensure that the right things are done in protecting under age children from been able to access porn on line.

 

The pontiff  said that the future of  children today should not be undermined because of profit.

 At an event tagged the Promotional Digital Child Dignity conference in the Vatican, the leader of the catholic church stressed that  drastic steps should be taken to curb the menace of underage exposure to pornography.

 

Pope Francis opined that there should be some balance as regards  free expression and privacy online, he also expressed fears over increased use of encryption which would make “any control extremely difficult, if not impossible”.

Speaking on the matter, the pontiff said:  “There is a need to ensure that investors and managers remain accountable, so that the good of minors and society is not sacrificed to profit.

 

“For the sake of advancing the development of the internet and its many benefits, companies that provide services have long considered themselves mere suppliers of technological platforms, neither legally nor morally responsible for the way they are used.”

 

Speaking further pope francis said: “It is now clear that they cannot consider themselves completely unaccountable vis-a-vis the services they provide for their customers. So I make an urgent appeal to them to assume their responsibility towards minors, their integrity and their future.”
