Google Honours Late Nigerian Footballer  Samuel Okwaraji on 55th posthumous birthday

In what would have been the  55th Birthday of Late football star, Samuel Okwraji who died while playing for his country.

American multinational technology giant, Google, has marked the 55th posthumous birthday of Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, with a Google Doodle.


A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google’s homepages intended to commemorate holidays, events, achievements, and notable historical figures.

Samuel Okwaraji  in his short career was a  professional footballer he also played for Nigeria internationally.

He collapsed and died on the field of play at the age of 25 after he suffered a congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State on August 12, 1989.


He was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.

Okwaraji was born  in Orlu, Imo State Nigeria, on May 19, 1964

He had a football career mostly in Europe playing for terms like AS Roma amongst others.
