The death of up coming rapper Ermias Davidson Asghedom aka Nipsey Hussle came as a rude shock to family friends and fans,he was shot dead in front of his clothing shop in the Hyde’s park neighbourhood of LA,his murder in broad day light triggered an outpouring of grief from all and sundry.
The public memorial service is slated for thurday this week at the staples centre in los Angeles.
According to reports,the 21,000 seat venue was chosen by the family to accommodate a massive crowd that will be attending the slain rapper’s funeral.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital by paramedics while the other two men who were with him at the time of the shooting and sustained varied degree of injuries are in stable condition.
29- year- old Eric Holder, who was alleged to have carried out the fatal shooting on Hussle has been arrested,and is currently been held in solitary confinement.
Nipsey was very vocal about his experience and involvement with street violence and described growing up in gang culture in his Crenshaw neighbourhood of South Los Angeles as “living in a war zone.”
Those struggles informed his music but also his philanthropy, particularly in Crenshaw where he is revered a community projects organiser.
In 2018, his ‘Too Big to Fail” initiative was launched in collaboration with Vector 90, a STEM centre and co-working space for youth in the Crenshaw district that serves as a bridge between the inner cities and Silicon Valley.he envisioned expanding the project to other cities across the United States,including DC to facilitate youth empowerment.
The centre was opened a day before the release of his Grammy-nominated 16-song debut album, Victory Lap. This is a collosal loss to not just his family and friends but also to the music industry and his community.He will be greatly missed.
