Nigerian Uzoma Asagwara Elected Into Legislative Seat In Canada
Nigerian Uzoma Asagwara, a psychiatric nurse in Canada has been elected into the country’s legislative seat for the New Democratic Party.
The Nigerian-Canadian was a community activist in Winnipeg prior to her election.
Thirty-nine year old Asagwara was one of three black people in the 150-year history of the Manitoba legislative house CBC News reports.
Speaking on her election, the athlete and activist said is grateful to everyone who has been a source of strength or support.
Asagwara is one of the queer black people to win a seat.
