World’s first Vagina museum to open in Camden market in the UK
A museum exclusively for vaginas is set to open in the UK.
This rare feature will open in carmen market on November 16 following a successful £50,000 crowdfunding campaign.
The museum aims to create awareness of vaginal and vulval health, and encouraging women to be open about that peculiar part of their body.
Founder Florence Schecter who set it up in 2017 after discovering one museum dedicated to only penises in iceland but had no equivalent for vulvas and vaginas said :
“It’s really important because it’s a hugely stigmatised part of the body and that leads to some real world consequences,” .
“Just anything and everything that’s taboo with that part of the body is what we’re going to be addressing.”
“the world’s first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to gynaecological anatomy.” The museum will feature art exhibitions, plays, workshops and comedy nights all centred around vaginas.
“When they’re ashamed of their bodies, it becomes really difficult for them to talk about things,” she said. “It’s about de-stigmatising this part of the body and being honest about what it does.”
