Algeria and Argentina Declared Malaria-Free

 “Algeria and Argentina have eliminated malaria thanks to the unwavering commitment and perseverance of the people and leaders of both countries. Their success serves as a model for other countries working to end this disease once and for all.”” said Dr Tedros Adhanom, WHO Director-General.


The World Health Organisation(WHO) says that malaria has totally been eradicated from Algeria and Argentina, This means that no one single  individual has been diagnosed  with the ailment in these two countries for three years.

Mauritius was the first African country to get  certified in 1973, while Algeria is the second country in Africa to have officially acheived the feat as a malaria-free nation.


WHO says the organisation has put work into actions in  “ensuring no-one was left behind in getting the services they needed to prevent, detect and cure the disease”.
