COVID19: Chinese medics test negative, to proceed on assignment


The 15-man Chinese medical team brought to Nigeria to fight Covid-19 has tested negative to the virus after a 14 -day mandatory quarantine to ascertain their health status.

Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire, made this known on Tuesday, April 28, he stated that  the Chinese medical expert can now proceed on the assignment that brought them to the country, The Nation reports

The Chinese medical experts, against the wish of Nigerian doctors and several objections arrived in Abuja with 16-ton test kits, ventilators, disinfection machine, disposable medical masks, pills, infrared thermometer and other items as requested for by the federal government.

On arrival into Nigeria, they went into 14- day isolation as stipulated by the federal government.

“After that, the Federal Ministry of Health is done with that particular case,” Ehanire said.

He also disclosed that “the ministry of health has set up a ministerial expert advisory committee, made up of eminent Nigerian virologists, public health experts, infectious disease and diagnostic experts and others, to study the evolution and development of the COVID-19 outbreak and the responses in Nigeria.

According to the  health minister, the  Chinese medics will not directly treat Covid19 patients, but would be sharing experiential strategies of how their country curtailed the spread of the virus.
