Lagos state government has announced that Lagos residents who are unable to conduct their Covid19 test in a government facility will pay N50,400 to get it done in a private laboratory.
This announcement was made by the commissioner for health Professor Akin Abayomi while launching the Lagos State Private-Public Consortium on the management of COVID-19 to increase the capacity of the state government in the management of the pandemic, which is on the across the country.
According to him, the tests that were being conducted in government-owned laboratories are free, the approved private laboratories will conduct COVID-19 tests in the state at a cost of between N40,000 and N50,400.
The new development has caused some apprehension especially among residents who believe they might not get adequate attention from the public hospitals or other government-owned facilities, where testings are usually carried out free of charge on the excuse that the testing kits are inadequate.
The state commissioner further revealed that the inclusion of the private consortium in the testing was part of the moves to expand the state government’s COVID-19 response capacity.
Lagos State has topped the list of worse hit states in Nigeria with two hundred new cases as of today.
