COVID19: Tokyo’s count continues to soar with 143 new cases within 24 hours


Metropolitan city Tokyo on Sunday recorded  143 new  cases of the Covid19, breaking the record for the most seen in the Japan’s capital in a single day.

Sunday’s figure marks another record after health authorities recorded 118 new cases a day earlier, the first time that the daily caseload has risen above 100.

Meanwhile, the number of people with the pneumonia-causing coronavirus who have died in Japan topped 100 the same day, according to a new tally.

Local media reported that the rising caseload is making people mount pressure on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to declare a state of emergency to slow the spread of the contagious pandemic.

Japan has already been forced to postpone this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo by one year due to the global crisis.

Local authorities has urged residents to stay home, and go out only when its very essential like going to get groceries or to seek medical care.
