Marie Fredriksson succumbs to death after a prolonged battle with brain tumour
Marie Fredriksson has died at the age of 61.
The Roxette singer lost her life after a prolonged battle with cancer, the popular Swedish singer, who created the She died on Monday morning (Dec.9) after suffering from a long-term illness.
Marie was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she collapsed while jogging with her husband in 2002.
Doctors gave her only a 20 per cent chance of survival – but she fought back to health and went back on the stage to the delight of her millions of fans.
A statement released by her family reads: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our biggest and most beloved artists is gone.”
She is survived by her husband Mikael Bolyos and their two children,”
Her co- bandmate Per Gessle while paying tribute said:
He said: “Time goes by so quickly. It’s not that long ago we spent days and nights in my tiny apartment listening to music we loved, sharing impossible dreams.
“And what a dream we eventually got to share!
“Thank you Marie, thank you for EVERYTHING.
“You were a truly unique musician, a singer on a level we will hardly ever experience again. “You painted my black and white songs with the most beautiful colours.”
