Plastic Bags To Be Ban As House Representatives Present Bill

The Members house of  representatives  in Abuja on tuesday called for a report on a bill to stop the usage of plastic bags for commercial or and other  purposes.

According to the Punch reports, The bill  has already been passed by the Senate,and was presented to the house by Rep. Mohammed Monguno,

 Deputy Speaker, Rep. Yusuf Lasun  presided over the matter at the Commitee.

The bill is aimed at curbing  the hazardous  implications of the use of plastic bags, as it relates to the environment, the resultant effects it has on  natural elements like wildlife, oceans, forest, rivers, lakes,  and humans, and urged for it speedy passage into law.

The report endorsed the use of paper bags as a better alternative and urge retailers and vendors to package goods in paper bags instead, and failure to comply is an offence  when the bill is passed into law.

It reports further stipulates that persons involved in the manufacturing and distribution of plastic bags  would also be guilty of an offence  under the law.

The report states that importations of  plastic bag for sale  is highly prohibited, and individuals found wanting would face the full wrath of the law.
