Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the rape and gruesome murder of a 100 level  Microbiology student of the University of Benin Miss Uwaila Vera Omozuwa.

The names of the suspect paraded by the Edo State Police Command include Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs. Tina Samuel, Mrs. Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien and Collins Ulegbe.

According to the report, the incidence happened in May 2020 at the premises of the Redeemed Christain Church of God situated at Osa-Amadasun Street, Ohovbe Quarters in Ikpoba hill Benin city.

Her lifeless body was found by the church security guard when he went to collect the keys to the church and was told that somebody had earlier come to collect the key and was in the church.

The deceased was said to always use the church hall as her reading house for the past 5 years until May 27th, when she met her death in the hands of rapists

Edo state commissioner of Police Johnson Kokumo said the case was diligently handled by the police to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to justice adding that the wide outcry the unfortunate incident generated and also the interest put in by the Inspector General of Police yielded the outcome.

He said: “The matter was of great concern to the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu who sent to us here in Benin, Homicide experts to work with our policemen at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

“What we are seeing today, is a result of the united efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime and today. I announce to you and making public through this medium that the perpetrators have been arrested”, he said.
