Thrift collector commits suicide over N200,00 Naira debt


A thrift collector in Ganmo community, near Ilorin, Kwara State identified as Habibullahi Aminullahi has hung himself to death over a 200 hundred thousand naira debt, being money collected from daily contributors.

Aminullahi, a grinding machine operator, reportedly committed the dastardly act in his shop at Ajase-Ipo Road, Ganmo.

A source said that the late Aminullahi had on October 4, summoned a meeting with his friends to complain over the N200,000 debt.

The source, who preferred anonymity, told newsmen that the friends advised the man to be calm as his situation would soon improve, but  Aminullahi refused to heed the advice of his friends and hung himself.

His body was reportedly found by his younger brother in the deceased shop.

A close friend of Aminullahi said he was at a loss as to why Aminullahi would kill himself when he had property he could easily dispose of to offset his debt.

He said that the deceased had more than five grinding machines, two houses in strategic places in his community, as well as a car being used as taxi.

The deceased was reported to have taken a second wife who was heavily pregnant.

Spokesman of the State Police Command  SP. Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the development but however said the deceased did not leave a suicide note.
