The two Nigerian men picked up by police in Chicago, Illinois in connection to actor Jussie Smollett’s race attack have been booked for battery, according to new reports.

Lawmakers were initially keen to point out to the media that the accused pair were persons of interest, but now they have been named “potential suspects”.

“We can confirm that they have been arrested but they have not been charged,” Chicago Police Department spokesman Sally Born told Deadline on Friday morning (15Feb19).

Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo were detained at O’Hare Airport in Chicago earlier this week (beg11Feb19). Sources tell the news outlet they are believed to be the same guys who were captured on surveillance video around the time of the incident.

Jussie told TV show Good Morning America earlier this week he’s positive the two men on the surveillance video are the same two men who attacked him, but he insisted they were white.

Reports suggest the Osundairos’ home was raided by cops, who seized potential evidence, including several bottles of bleach.
Smollett was beaten up outside his apartment in Chicago last month (Jan19).

He claims a rope noose was placed around his neck and a bleach-like liquid poured over him as the two attackers hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him.

Sources claim both Ola and Abel Osundairo have appeared as extras on Jussie’s hit TV show Empire and the actor follows Abel Osundairo on Instagram.

It’s still not clear what motivated the attack on Smollett on 29 January.
