Updated: Cause of Akure blast identified

The cause of the explosion that rocked Akure, the Ondo State capital in the early hours of Saturday may have been identified.

Buildings numbering into hundreds were pulled down by the explosion Eleyowo, Akure, along Owo-Akure highway in the early hours on Saturday including a full boarding school, Aina Awawul Secondary School, one the most popular churches in Akure, Possibility Ground Ministry.a

Residents in the area said they heard a terrifying loud bang  while persons were fast asleep.

The explosion cut off the highway.

Police officers and other security agencies are already on ground to assess the situation.

Speculations abound that the explosion may have been caused by meteorite.

 Google defines Meteorite is a piece of rock or metal that has fallen to the earth’s surface from outer space as a meteor. Over 90 per cent of meteorites are of rock while the remainder consist wholly or partly of iron and nickel.
