Comments Off on “We’re banning them from the United States,”……Donald Trump…. We are not going anywhere Tik Tok replies him
US President Donald Trump has announced that he intends to ban Tik Tok, a Chinese owned video-sharing app in the United States.
He revealed this to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday night, “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,”
The Bloomberg also reported that Trump indicated he’s ready to sign a document to order the ban as early as yesterday Saturday, either via executive order or emergency economic powers.
“I will sign the document tomorrow,” said Trump on Friday night, indicating that a ban could take effect “essentially immediately.
US security officials have expressed concern that the app, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, could be used to collect the personal data of Americans.
Responding, TikTok has denied accusations that it is controlled by or shares data with the Chinese government saying they are not going anywhere after he threatened to ban them from the US.
In a statement released by a spokesperson for the company, the platform disclosed that they have provided millions of Americans with “entertainment and connection” during the coronavirus pandemic and denied criticism that its Chinese owner shares user information with Beijing.
“TikTok US user data is stored in the US, with strict controls on employee access. TikTok’s biggest investors come from the US. We are committed to protecting our users’ privacy and safety as we continue working to bring joy to families and meaningful careers to those who create on our platform,” the spokesperson said.
The fast-growing app has up to 80 million active monthly users in America and the ban would be a major setback for ByteDance and Americans.
